Kenya’s Senate is preparing to vote on the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The National Assembly recently passed the impeachment motion, accusing Gachagua of corruption, inciting ethnic division, and supporting anti-government protests.
A two-thirds majority is required in the Senate for the motion to pass. If successful, Gachagua would be the first deputy president removed under Kenya’s 2010 constitution. Gachagua, however, has denied the charges, calling the process politically motivated and linked to tensions with President William Ruto.
