The UK recently deported a significant number of Nigerians and Ghanaians in a single flight, marking a major action in its crackdown on illegal immigration. A chartered flight, carrying about 30 Nigerians and 8 Ghanaians, arrived in Lagos as part of the UK government’s effort to enforce its “New Plan for Immigration” policy. The deported individuals reportedly included people convicted of serious crimes, such as sexual offenses, and those deemed to have no legal right to remain in the UK.
This mass deportation aligns with the UK’s broader strategy to strengthen its immigration enforcement and prevent the abuse of the asylum system. The UK has been working on migration agreements with countries like Nigeria, Ghana, and Rwanda to address illegal migration, including plans to transfer asylum seekers to Rwanda for processing.
