The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has reported a significant revenue collection of approximately N4.07 trillion for the first nine months of 2024. This figure exceeds the government’s prorated target of N3.81 trillion for the same period, marking a 7.6% increase. The NCS is on track to surpass its annual revenue goal of N5.1 trillion, needing about N981.9 billion in the fourth quarter to achieve this target.
Throughout the year, the customs agency has seen remarkable monthly revenue growth compared to previous years. For example, September 2024 alone generated N423.2 billion, up from N320.9 billion in September 2023. Monthly figures for earlier months also show significant increases, with January 2024 collections rising to N390.8 billion from N199.8 billion the year before.
This success has been attributed to strategic reforms and operational changes implemented by the new Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whose initiatives have led to improved efficiency and morale among customs operatives.
