Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva recently suffered a head injury at his home, causing him to cancel his planned trip to the BRICS summit in Russia. Lula, 78, sustained a laceration to the back of his head after a fall, but while medical evaluations advised against long-distance air travel, he is still able to carry out his regular duties.
As a result, he will now participate in the summit via videoconference instead of attending in person. Brazil’s Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira, will represent the country at the summit, which will take place in Kazan, Russia, from October 22-24.
