The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that Nigeria is supplying consistent 24-hour electricity to neighboring countries, including Togo, Benin, and Niger. TCN’s Chief Executive Officer, Sule Abdulaziz, confirmed this during a recent media appearance, emphasizing that the continuous power supply is being extended to these countries, which reportedly meet their payment obligations for the electricity provided.
This development comes against the backdrop of significant challenges faced by Nigeria’s domestic power supply. The country has been grappling with persistent power outages, with the national grid reportedly collapsing multiple times in a single week. While some areas receive nearly 24 hours of power, many Nigerians continue to experience prolonged blackouts, raising questions about the effectiveness of the power distribution system.
Abdulaziz mentioned that aging infrastructure and systemic inefficiencies have contributed to the power crisis at home, despite the TCN’s efforts to improve the situation. The company is currently collaborating with international partners, including the World Bank, to upgrade and expand the power grid, aiming to enhance stability and reliability in electricity supply for Nigerian citizens.
