The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the elimination of Hashem Safieddine, a top Hezbollah leader and key successor to Hassan Nasrallah, in an airstrike on Beirut’s Dahieh district. Safieddine, who headed Hezbollah’s Executive Council, was targeted during a wave of strikes aimed at Hezbollah strongholds.
His death represents a significant blow to Hezbollah, given his close ties with Iranian leadership, including his family connection to the late Iranian General Qassem Soleimani. The attack occurred amid heavy rocket fire from Lebanon into northern Israel.
