
The ongoing insecurity in Zamfara State has severely hampered the World Bank-backed Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING) project. TRIMING aims to enhance agricultural productivity through improved irrigation systems across Nigeria, including the Bakolori Irrigation Scheme in Zamfara. However, the persistent activities of armed groups and kidnappers have made it difficult for project teams to safely operate in the region. This insecurity threatens to derail the project’s timeline, potentially affecting its ability to meet key agricultural development goals that could significantly uplift local farmers and the economy.
