A recent report on governance in Africa places Nigeria among the worst-governed countries on the continent. Nigeria ranks poorly due to several persistent issues such as corruption, inadequate infrastructure, political instability, and widespread insecurity. Despite being Africa’s largest economy, these governance challenges significantly hinder the country’s development.
According to the Chandler Good Government Index, Nigeria ranks 100th globally and 3rd worst in Africa. The report highlights that countries like Zimbabwe and Mali also face similar struggles. Moreover, Nigeria’s score on the Ibrahim Index of African Governance shows it performing below the West African average, reflecting poor leadership, weak institutions, and economic mismanagement.
