The UN has expressed urgent concern over the plight of seriously injured children and others in Gaza facing life-threatening delays in medical evacuations. The recent violence and restrictions have exacerbated Gaza’s healthcare crisis, with many hospitals now non-functional and thousands needing immediate care outside Gaza, including over a thousand children in critical condition. Following recent negotiations, 81 people, including sick children, have been allowed to leave Gaza for medical care in Egypt.
However, the UN warns this evacuation is far from sufficient to address the vast needs. Additionally, the UN is calling for greater protection of Gaza’s healthcare facilities and faster access for humanitarian aid, including medical supplies, food, water, and fuel, to ensure these facilities can function effectively amid the crisis.
