The Nigeria Development Forum (NDF) has criticized Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for allegedly prioritizing political matters in Rivers State over his responsibilities in Abuja. This criticism follows Wike’s recent actions and statements indicating a strong interest in the political dynamics of Rivers, where he has reportedly sought to maintain control despite no longer being the governor. Senator Andrew Uchendu also urged Wike to focus on his role in Abuja and allow current Governor Siminalayi Fubara to manage state affairs.
Wike’s recent initiatives, such as plans to remove beggars from the streets of Abuja, have drawn attention, but his engagement with local political issues in Rivers has raised concerns that he is neglecting critical matters affecting the FCT, such as security. Analysts have suggested that while other ministers have focused on their federal roles, Wike’s dual interest in both the FCT and Rivers politics may hinder his effectivenes.
