Seven people tragically lost their lives while scavenging at a demolition site in Abuja, according to the Federal Emergency Management Department (FEMD). The incident occurred as a partially demolished building collapsed, trapping the scavengers within the debris. The FEMD reported that the victims were looking for scrap materials when the remaining structure fell, and emergency response teams were quickly deployed to the scene.
Officials have since urged the public to stay away from demolished sites for safety reasons. Additionally, authorities are expected to investigate the collapse and possibly implement stricter measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
