Aso Rock memo shows Bola Tinubu ‘very sad’ Nigerians call him ‘Tpain’ as historic hunger besets his presidency
Reports suggest that President Bola Tinubu is reportedly saddened by the growing use of the nickname “Tpain” to describe his presidency, which is being associated with the severe economic challenges and hunger facing Nigerians. The label began to gain traction on social media around September 2024, as dissatisfaction with rising inflation, unemployment, and the surging cost of living became more widespread. Tinubu’s administration has faced significant criticism over the removal of fuel subsidies, currency devaluation, and other policies that have contributed to an inflation rate of 38%, with many Nigerians struggling to afford basic necessities like food.
While Tinubu’s government has acknowledged the hardships and is working on solutions such as easing import tariffs on essential food items and promoting gas-powered vehicles to reduce transportation costs, the discontent among citizens remains strong. Social media has played a significant role in amplifying these frustrations
