The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, has urged all political parties, candidates, and their supporters in Ondo State to uphold peace as the gubernatorial election approaches. Addressing stakeholders, Professor Yakubu emphasized the importance of creating a peaceful environment for free and fair elections, stressing that violence and disruptions would only undermine the democratic process.
In his message, Yakubu reassured voters of INEC’s commitment to a transparent and credible election. The commission has made arrangements to secure polling stations and implement measures to ensure that the election process remains transparent and that every vote counts. This, he noted, is crucial for building trust in the electoral system and upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy.
The INEC chairman also called on political stakeholders to respect the rule of law and adhere to democratic principles during the election. He reminded them of their responsibility to act as role models for their supporters, promoting peace and ensuring that the election reflects the will of the people. Yakubu’s appeal is part of INEC’s broader efforts to encourage peaceful and credible elections across Nigeria.
