Troops from Operation Hadin Kai and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) successfully repelled an attack by ISWAP terrorists in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State. The terrorists, using a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) as part of their assault, were confronted in a fierce battle led by the 101 Special Forces Battalion. Aerial support from the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai played a critical role, targeting retreating insurgents with precision strikes.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, with ISWAP fighters advancing from multiple flanks on motorcycles. The military’s swift response neutralized several insurgents, forcing the remaining fighters to abandon their weapons and retreat towards Lake Chad. Recovered items included anti-aircraft guns, general-purpose machine guns, and motorcycles. Military intelligence suggests that ISWAP may attempt to regroup and warned of possible retaliatory attacks targeting reinforcements or military bases.
This engagement highlights the ongoing efforts of Nigerian forces to maintain dominance in the Lake Chad region and counter the persistent threat of terrorism.
