Nigeria and China have strengthened their economic partnership, with bilateral trade between the two nations reaching an impressive $22.6 billion in 2023. Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed this during a recent engagement, highlighting the growing significance of China as a key trading partner for Nigeria.
Shettima noted that this figure underscores the importance of fostering mutually beneficial ties with China, which has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most significant economic allies. The trade relationship encompasses a wide range of sectors, including oil and gas, construction, telecommunications, and agriculture.
While the vice president celebrated the robust trade figures, he also emphasized the need to address Nigeria’s trade deficit with China by promoting local production and enhancing the export of Nigerian goods to the Asian market.
The record trade volume reflects the commitment of both countries to deepening their economic cooperation, a move expected to boost Nigeria’s economic diversification agenda.
