Gareth Southgate, former England football manager, has confirmed that he will not take on any coaching role for at least the next year. After stepping down from his position following England’s defeat in the 2024 European Championship final, Southgate revealed that he is taking a break to recuperate from the pressures of his long tenure. He said that after dedicating over a decade to the national team, both his body and mind need time to rest.
While speculation swirled about potential new roles, including coaching at club level or another national team, Southgate expressed that his return to football, if it happens, would be under some conditions. He noted that he was unlikely to take up another national team role, highlighting that his experience with England came “from the heart.” He remains undecided about returning to club football but emphasized that he would only take up a position if it reignited his passion.
