Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed optimism that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), will soon be released. Speaking during a meeting with the South East Legislators Forum in Abuja, Kalu emphasized that high-level discussions are ongoing with relevant authorities to facilitate Kanu’s release. He called for continued prayers and highlighted the importance of dialogue in addressing issues affecting the South-East region.
Kanu has been in detention since June 2021, facing treason charges after being arrested and extradited to Nigeria. Efforts for his release have gained traction, with other notable figures, such as Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, also hinting at President Tinubu’s willingness to address the matter, recognizing its significance in reducing unrest in the region.
