The Nigerian military has responded forcefully to recent threats from former militant leader Asari Dokubo, who claimed he could shoot down military helicopters flying over his residence. In a video, Dokubo also boasted about his ability to challenge the Nigerian military. In reaction, Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, dismissed Dokubo’s comments as “laughable” but warned that the military is prepared to confront him.
Buba issued a challenge, inviting Dokubo to face the military on the battlefield, where he would be neutralized if he attempted any hostile action. The military emphasized that it operates professionally under a democratic framework and does not act impulsively on threats like Dokubo’s.This situation escalates amid heightened tensions in Rivers State, particularly around a controversial local government election.
Despite Dokubo’s bold claims, the military has reiterated its focus on combating terrorism and banditry in various regions of Nigeria.
