Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and 2023 presidential candidate, has commended the Nigeria Police Force for their swift and professional rescue of Mrs. Folashade Odumusu, the wife of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Hakeem Odumusu.
The rescue operation, carried out within a week of the abduction, resulted in the safe release of the victim, the neutralization of some kidnappers, the recovery of weapons, and the retrieval of the ransom paid. Obi praised the precision and effectiveness of the mission, describing it as an example of what is possible when law enforcement agencies are well-supported and motivated.
The Ogun State Police Command, which led the operation, credited its success to technical support and cooperation from the Force Headquarters and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The IGP personally took an interest in the case and commended the Ogun Command for dismantling the criminal network responsible for the abduction.
Obi highlighted the significance of this achievement, noting that it demonstrates the potential of Nigeria’s security agencies to combat crime effectively when provided with proper leadership and resources. He also called for the same level of urgency and professionalism to be extended to cases involving ordinary Nigerians, whose plights are often overlooked or underreported.
“This successful operation proves that a new Nigeria is truly possible,” Obi stated. “It underscores the importance of prioritizing the welfare and efficiency of our security agencies to ensure the safety of all citizens.”
As Nigeria continues to grapple with rising cases of kidnapping, Obi urged security agencies to sustain this momentum and restore public confidence in their ability to protect lives and property.
