Abuja, Nigeria – February 1, 2025: The Take It Back (TIB) Movement has issued a strong warning to the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, over what it describes as harassment of activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore. The group also condemned alleged attempts to fabricate charges against him.
In a statement released on Friday, the TIB Movement accused Adejobi of using his position to intimidate Sowore, who has been a vocal critic of government policies and human rights violations in Nigeria. The movement warned that any attempts to frame or unlawfully detain Sowore would be met with strong resistance from civil society and the Nigerian public.
“We will not sit back and allow the police to be used as a tool for political persecution,” the statement read. “Adejobi must desist from any further acts of intimidation against Sowore, and the authorities must put an end to these desperate tactics aimed at silencing dissent.”
The group further urged the Nigerian Police Force to uphold its constitutional duty of protecting citizens rather than targeting activists. It called on local and international human rights organizations to monitor the situation closely.
Omoyele Sowore, a well-known activist and founder of Sahara Reporters, has faced multiple arrests and legal battles in recent years, often linked to his outspoken stance against government policies and calls for systemic reforms.
The police are yet to officially respond to the allegations made by the TIB Movement. However, tensions continue to rise as concerns over press freedom and political persecution in Nigeria remain in focus.
