ABUJA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed into law the bill establishing the North-Central Development Commission (NCDC), aiming to foster development in Nigeria’s North-Central region.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the presidential assent during a Senate session on Tuesday. He stated, “Mr. President has also assented to the North-Central Development Commission establishment bill 2024, in order to bring development to the grassroots.”
The NCDC is tasked with addressing socio-economic challenges in the North-Central geopolitical zone, focusing on infrastructure development, security enhancement, and economic revitalization. Its establishment is expected to coordinate interventions that promote regional growth and stability.
This move has been met with optimism from stakeholders in the North-Central region, who anticipate increased federal attention to areas affected by insecurity and underdevelopment. The commission is expected to function similarly to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), coordinating efforts to enhance regional growth.
In addition to the NCDC bill, President Tinubu has also assented to bills establishing a federal polytechnic in Rano, Kano State, and a federal university of health sciences in Tsafe, Zamfara State, further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to advancing education and development across the nation.
