The Federal Government has assured Nigerians that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be completed during President Bola Tinubu’s second term. The Minister of Works, David Umahi, made this announcement while inspecting ongoing construction on the project.
According to Umahi, the government is committed to fast-tracking the 700-kilometer highway, which is expected to enhance economic growth and improve connectivity between Lagos and Cross River. He emphasized that the project remains a priority under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, promising that construction will not be abandoned.
“The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a game-changer for Nigeria’s infrastructure. President Tinubu is determined to see it through, ensuring it is completed within his second term,” Umahi stated.
The multi-billion-dollar project, which was flagged off in 2024, is designed to boost trade, tourism, and real estate development along Nigeria’s coastline. It is also expected to ease congestion on existing roads while fostering economic activities in coastal communities.
Despite initial controversies over funding and environmental concerns, Umahi assured stakeholders that all necessary approvals and compensation plans are being addressed.
With the government’s renewed commitment, expectations are high that the project will meet its deadline and transform transportation in Nigeria.
