Chijioke Ihunwo, the newly elected Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, has removed the name of former Governor Nyesom Wike from the council’s administrative block. Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is from the Obio Akpor area and had his name prominently displayed on the building due to his past role as a council chairman and governor.
Ihunwo replaced Wike’s name with that of Senator Dr. Obi Wali, a late politician and activist from Rivers State. This action follows the recent local government elections, which saw Ihunwo and other chairpersons sworn in by Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The move is seen by some as a reflection of the ongoing political tension between Wike and Fubara, who have reportedly been at odds over political control in the state.
