The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a directive mandating that any land allocated within the territory must be developed within two years or risk revocation.
Wike made this known during a media briefing in Abuja, emphasizing the need to curb land speculation and ensure optimal utilization of allocated plots. According to him, the new policy is aimed at accelerating infrastructural development and discouraging individuals and organizations from hoarding undeveloped lands.
“From now on, any land that is granted must be developed within two years. If not, we will revoke it. We cannot continue to have people holding onto lands for years without any development,” Wike said.
The minister added that the FCT administration would begin a comprehensive review of land allocations to identify plots that have remained undeveloped beyond the stipulated timeframe. He noted that such plots will be repossessed and reallocated to serious investors willing to contribute to the growth of the capital city.
This move is part of Wike’s broader efforts to sanitize the land administration system in the FCT and stimulate economic activities through infrastructure development.
