A fresh wave of violence has struck Ikpakpara village in Agamede, Eha-Amufu community, leaving residents in shock and mourning after the brutal killing of innocent farmers over the weekend. The attack is the latest in a troubling pattern of insecurity plaguing rural communities across Nigeria.
Reacting to the incident, former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Mr. Peter Obi, expressed deep sorrow and called for immediate government intervention to halt the continuous bloodshed.
In a heartfelt statement posted on his social media platforms, Obi said:
> “Yet another heartbreaking report of the brutal killing of innocent farmers in Ikpakpara village, Agamede, Eha-Amufu community in Enugu State at the weekend, is sad news coming too often in our country.
My heart breaks for the Eha-Amufu people, for the grieving families, and for those still searching for their missing loved ones.
These killings must stop. We cannot keep watching communities bleed without justice or protection. We cannot continue to allow our farmers to be afraid of going back to their farms. We cannot continue to allow insecurity.
To the people of Eha-Amufu: You are not alone. I offer my heartfelt condolences to your community and I pray that the souls of the departed rest in peace. May peace and security return to your land.”
The Eha-Amufu community in Enugu State has suffered repeated attacks in recent years, with little to no lasting security solutions implemented. The latest tragedy highlights the ongoing vulnerability of farming communities, despite repeated calls for federal protection and justice.
Citizens are calling on the government to not only condemn the acts but also take visible, long-term action to restore peace and rebuild trust in the affected areas.
