The media team of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the recently formed coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a “desperate alliance of failed politicians,” questioning the credibility and intentions behind the merger.
In a statement released to the press on Monday evening, Tinubu’s spokesperson alleged that the coalition is made up of individuals “who have repeatedly been rejected by Nigerians at the polls and are now clinging to relevance through a hasty and unprincipled alliance.”
“This coalition is not about the people—it’s a gathering of serial losers, political opportunists, and recycled figures attempting to deceive Nigerians with a new label,” the statement read.
The ADC-led coalition, which has gained momentum in recent weeks and attracted notable political figures, claims to offer a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2026 general elections. However, Tinubu’s camp insists the move is driven by “personal ambitions and vendettas” rather than national interest.
The opposition parties within the coalition are yet to respond formally to the remarks, but supporters of the alliance say the statement reflects the growing fear within the ruling party over the rising popularity of third-force movements across the country.
Analysts suggest this exchange signals an intensifying political battle ahead of what promises to be a fiercely contested election season.
