Abuja | July 21, 2025 — Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 elections, Omoyele Sowore, along with a coalition of activists, has announced plans to stage a protest in Abuja today (Monday) to demand better welfare for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
The protest, which is expected to take place at key government locations in the Federal Capital Territory, aims to draw attention to the poor living conditions, irregular salaries, and lack of adequate support for police officers across the country.
Speaking ahead of the demonstration, Sowore emphasized that the welfare of police officers has a direct impact on national security and public trust in law enforcement.
> “We cannot continue to ignore the plight of those who are tasked with protecting lives and property. A demoralized police force is a danger to itself and to the people,” he said.
The organizers are calling for the implementation of long-promised police reforms, including better housing, healthcare, timely payment of salaries, and improved working conditions.
Civil society groups, student unions, and concerned citizens are also expected to join the peaceful protest, which they say will serve as a wake-up call to the federal government.
As security agencies prepare to monitor the situation, many are watching to see how the government will respond to the renewed call for justice—not just for the people, but for the protectors themselves.
