Nigeria’s national electricity grid collapsed once again on the evening of October 14, 2024, at approximately 6:58 PM. This has led to widespread blackouts across various regions, particularly affecting states in the Southeast like Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Imo. Power generation plummeted dramatically, dropping to zero by 7 PM.
Multiple electricity distribution companies, including the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), confirmed the collapse and have been in communication with their customers. They assured that efforts are being made to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilized. This latest collapse adds to the numerous instances of grid failures Nigeria has experienced in recent years, raising concerns over the reliability of the country’s electricity infrastructure.
