There has been a recent surge in Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) cases in Nigeria, with Lagos and Cross River among the most affected states. As of the latest reports, Nigeria has recorded 39 confirmed cases of Mpox across various states. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is intensifying surveillance efforts, especially in high-risk areas such as Lagos, Cross River, and Abuja. Cross River recently confirmed two new cases in Calabar Municipality, prompting local health authorities to start contact tracing and isolation measures to contain the virus’s spread.
The NCDC has urged the public to follow infection prevention protocols, including avoiding contact with animals that could carry the virus and washing hands frequently. Public health teams are on high alert at major airports and seaports to detect and respond to new cases.
