Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State governor, is set to face disciplinary action from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for alleged anti-party activities. Wike has been summoned by the party’s National Working Committee to appear before a disciplinary panel chaired by Tom Ikimi. This follows accusations that Wike’s actions, including supporting the APC government of President Bola Tinubu and his public threats against PDP governors, undermined the party’s interests.
Wike had refused to back the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 elections, instead criticizing the party’s leadership over zoning issues. His continued involvement with the APC government has raised concerns among PDP members, prompting petitions against him. Wike’s recent comments, where he threatened to “put fire” in the states of any PDP governor interfering in Rivers State’s affairs, further escalated tensions.
