Residents of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) staged a protest in Abuja, accusing Minister Nyesom Wike of unlawfully seizing land from low-income communities to benefit his wealthy associates. Holding placards and chanting slogans, demonstrators voiced anger over what they perceive as land-grabbing tactics that prioritize the interests of the elite over the rights of vulnerable residents. Protesters emphasized that the actions allegedly disregarded due process, leaving many families at risk of displacement.
Protest organizers claimed that Wike’s recent actions threaten not only the livelihoods but also the stability of the communities impacted. According to residents, land previously designated for affordable housing and public amenities has been redirected to the minister’s affluent allies. Community leaders expressed frustration over what they see as government disregard for the poor, who face the potential loss of their homes and businesses due to this alleged favoritism.
As the protest continued, calls for Wike’s removal gained momentum. Many residents demanded that President Bola Tinubu intervene to address the allegations and ensure fair land distribution in Abuja. They argue that replacing Wike is necessary to restore transparency and rebuild trust between the government and the people.
