A security outfit operating in Anambra State has come under scrutiny after a viral video surfaced, showing its officials threatening to arrest women seen in public without bras or underwear.
The video, which was widely circulated on social media on Sunday, February 16, 2025, features a security operative making the announcement in Igbo. According to the official, the directive allegedly comes from Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. The speaker further warned that women wearing only panties in public would also face arrest.
The announcement has drawn criticism and raised legal and ethical concerns regarding personal freedoms. Former Kaduna State Senator, Shehu Sani, weighed in on the matter, questioning the logistics of enforcing such a directive. In a social media post, Sani sarcastically asked whether the so-called “pant law” would apply to men and how compliance would be verified.
The security outfit behind the declaration, the Agunaechemba Vigilante Group, was established by Governor Soludo as part of efforts to combat crime, including kidnappings and violent attacks, in the state. However, there has been no official statement from the Anambra State government confirming or addressing the reported directive.
The lack of clarity has fueled debates on social media, with citizens demanding an official response from the government. As discussions continue, concerns persist about the legality and enforcement of such a policy, if indeed it was sanctioned by the state authorities.
