Arsenal is reportedly positioning itself to sign Aston Villa’s rising star, Jhon Duran, during the January transfer window. Mikel Arteta is keen on adding a new striker to the squad, as Gabriel Jesus continues to struggle with injuries, and the club lacks a consistent out-and-out No. 9. Duran, 20, has been in sensational form this season, scoring six goals in 10 appearances across competitions, which has caught Arsenal’s attention.
Although Aston Villa managed to keep him during the summer despite interest from Chelsea, Arsenal is now “at the forefront” of clubs looking to secure the Colombian forward’s signature. Villa, however, is likely to demand a hefty fee, reportedly around £67 million, for Duran, who has more than five years left on his current contract.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will pursue this deal in January, but the Gunners see Duran as a potential solution to bolster their attacking options.
