An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) was tragically killed in Lagos following a violent clash between police and commercial motorcyclists (also known as “okada” riders). The incident occurred at Ajao Estate when officers attempted to impound motorcycles for violating Lagos traffic laws.
The motorcyclists regrouped and attacked the police, leading to a violent confrontation. The ASP, leading the team, was reportedly disarmed and shot with his own service weapon by some of the rioters. The situation escalated with further attacks, resulting in injuries to other officers as well.
This event highlights ongoing tensions between law enforcement and okada riders in Lagos, where frequent conflicts arise over enforcement of traffic regulations.
