A bill proposing the creation of a new “Ibadan State” from the existing Oyo State has passed its second reading in Nigeria’s House of Representatives. This bill is part of a broader move in the National Assembly to create several new states across Nigeria.
According to the bill, Ibadan would serve as the capital of the new Ibadan State, while the new Oyo State would have Ogbomoso as its capital.This effort is part of ongoing constitutional amendments aimed at addressing demands for new states across the country.
The bill now awaits further legislative actions, including referral to the Special Committee on Constitution Review. If successful, it would lead to significant territorial and administrative changes in the region.
