President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has conferred the prestigious national honor of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The ceremony took place during a bilateral meeting at the State House in Abuja on November 17, 2024.
The award was presented to recognize and deepen the strong diplomatic ties between Nigeria and India. Tinubu praised Modi’s commitment to democratic values and his leadership in a complex society like India. Modi, in turn, expressed solidarity with Nigeria over recent natural disasters and pledged 20 tonnes of relief materials to aid ongoing humanitarian efforts.
