Rescue operations following a recent building collapse in Abuja have brought harrowing news as seven people are confirmed dead and many others are still believed to be trapped. This tragic incident took place in the Kubwa district on Saturday evening, and was reportedly triggered by structural weaknesses. Initial efforts by locals to free victims were hampered due to the late arrival of emergency responders, who reached the scene by the following morning.
The structure, a partially demolished building marked for removal due to code violations, was reportedly occupied by scavengers who sought shelter in it. Witnesses suggest that their activities to strip metal from the foundation may have contributed to the collapse. However, officials are investigating whether unauthorized scavenging or compromised structural integrity from an incomplete demolition led to the tragedy.
