The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups in the South-East against promoting the activities of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), on social media platforms.
Speaking on Thursday during a security engagement in Abuja, General Musa emphasized that the military is closely monitoring the online space, particularly content that incites violence, spreads misinformation, or glorifies terrorism. He cautioned that those found guilty of such actions would face the full weight of the law.
“The propagation of the activities of IPOB and ESN on social media is not only unlawful but dangerous. It undermines national security and puts the lives of innocent citizens at risk,” the CDS said.
He noted that security agencies have intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering to identify and track digital promoters of outlawed groups, urging community leaders and civil society to work with the military to counter the growing influence of separatist narratives online.
General Musa reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and stability in the South-East, urging citizens to eschew divisive tendencies and support legitimate governance structures.
The warning comes amid renewed concerns over rising online agitation and coordinated digital campaigns by pro-Biafra sympathizers, which authorities fear could incite unrest and embolden criminal elements in the region.
