Shehu Sani recently criticized the approach of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, regarding the removal of beggars from Abuja, arguing that it addresses only the symptoms and not the root causes of the problem. Sani pointed out that begging is a result of deeper societal issues such as poverty, unemployment, and systemic neglect.
He warned that simply chasing beggars from the streets amounts to hiding the underlying issues rather than solving them. He emphasized the need for comprehensive strategies focused on alleviating poverty, providing education, and creating jobs to address the problem sustainably. He also highlighted that leaders should prioritize confronting the socioeconomic factors driving street begging instead of criminalizing it.
