Amid Surge in CasesNigeria is facing a deadly cholera outbreak that has already claimed 359 lives across 33 states. According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), over 10,000 suspected cases have been recorded in 2024 alone.
The hardest-hit areas include Lagos, Adamawa, and Borno, with children under five years old being particularly vulnerable. The outbreak is linked to poor sanitation practices, like open defecation, and inadequate access to clean water in rural and urban slum areas.
Adamawa remains a major hotspot, with over 500 cases reported in the past month. Public health officials are urging the public to adopt better hygiene practices and for state governments to enhance water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) efforts to curb the spread.
