A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the final forfeiture of $4.7 million, ₦830 million, and several properties allegedly linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
Justice Yellim Bogoro issued the ruling following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which argued that the funds and assets were proceeds of unlawful activities. The court had earlier granted an interim forfeiture order, allowing individuals or entities with claims to the assets to come forward. However, with no credible opposition presented, the court ruled in favor of a final forfeiture.
The EFCC had alleged that the recovered funds and properties were linked to financial misconduct during Emefiele’s tenure as CBN governor. The ruling marks another development in the ongoing investigations into financial irregularities under his administration.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to holding public officials accountable and recovering assets obtained through questionable means. Meanwhile, Emefiele, who has faced multiple legal battles since leaving office, has yet to publicly respond to the latest court ruling.
