A court in Abuja has summoned former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to appear on November 14, 2024, over allegations of fraud totaling N110.4 billion. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a 16-count charge against Bello, accusing him of criminal breach of trust and unlawful possession of property, which allegedly took place during his tenure as governor between 2016 and 2023. The charges are based on violations of the Penal Code Law, including sections relating to breach of trust and possession of unlawfully obtained property.
The case is a continuation of previous accusations, where the EFCC initially charged Bello with offenses amounting to N80.2 billion, later increased to the current figure. Political interference has reportedly hindered efforts to arrest Bello, but the court has now issued a formal summons for him to answer to these allegations.
