In a bold move, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has begun auctioning off 94,550 liters of seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at ₦630 per litre in Adamawa State. The operation, launched in Yola by Customs Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, represents the latest phase of Operation Whirlwind, a national effort to combat fuel smuggling. The seized fuel was sold at two filling stations, and Customs officials stressed that this was done in accordance with the Nigeria Customs Act of 2023.
The auction aims to curb smuggling and ensure fair distribution of fuel in border regions, where illegal exportation has been rampant. The sale also underscores the NCS’s commitment to cracking down on fuel-related crimes and supporting fuel price deregulation across the country.
