In a thought-provoking statement, Nigerian commentator and thought leader Dr. Mo has called for a collective effort to rise above tribalism and dependence on divisive fallback mechanisms that hinder national progress. His remarks shed light on the subtle ways tribalism and societal divisions manifest in everyday life, particularly during challenging times.
“Tribalism resides within us all, often lying dormant until challenges arise,” Dr. Mo stated. “In moments of difficulty, many of us instinctively retreat to the safety of our tribe, seek solace in religion, or use money to navigate obstacles.”
Dr. Mo cited the common Nigerian practice of keeping small denominations in vehicle glove compartments to “settle” officials at checkpoints as an example of the systemic challenges that perpetuate corruption and division.
He emphasized that while these behaviors reflect deep-seated societal structures, they also highlight the urgent need for transformation. Dr. Mo urged Nigerians to prioritize unity in diversity, merit over mediocrity, and a collective vision that transcends tribal, religious, and economic boundaries.
“True progress comes when we embrace a nation where fairness, equity, and justice prevail,” he added.
Dr. Mo’s statement serves as a rallying call for Nigerians to reject division and work together to build a more inclusive and equitable society
