The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarrett Tenebe, has issued another fiery warning to Peter Obi, vowing that the party will “smoke him out” if he continues to “meddle” in Edo politics.
Tenebe, who made the statement while addressing APC supporters during a stakeholders’ meeting in Benin, accused Obi of attempting to influence Edo State’s political direction under the guise of national activism. He described Obi’s recent visits and statements in the state as “unwarranted interference” and declared that the APC will not sit idly by.
“We will smoke him out if he continues with this meddling. This is Edo State. We won’t allow anyone to destabilize our political structure,” Tenebe said, drawing loud applause from party loyalists.
The remarks come amid rising tensions ahead of the Edo governorship election scheduled for later this year. Peter Obi has been vocal in his support for Labour Party candidates and has continued to mobilize support among young voters in the state.
In response, several political observers and civil society groups have condemned Tenebe’s comments, warning against inflammatory rhetoric that could incite violence or suppress democratic participation.
As the political climate heats up in Edo, all eyes remain on the conduct of party leaders and candidates, with many calling for civility, peace, and issue-based campaigns.
Peter Obi has yet to officially respond to the latest threat.
