In a strategic cabinet move, newly inaugurated Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo nominated Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, son of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole, as the Commissioner for Health. This appointment highlights the ongoing influence of the Oshiomhole family within the state’s politics, as Cyril’s father currently serves as a senator. Alongside this nomination, Okpebholo appointed Barrister Musa Ikhilor as the Secretary to the State Government and selected former legislator Dr. Samson Osagie for Attorney-General, with both appointments awaiting confirmation from the State House of Assembly.
Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole’s nomination aligns with Okpebholo’s goal to strengthen the healthcare sector in Edo State. His medical background is seen as a positive asset for the state’s health initiatives, and his family’s political influence has further solidified his nomination. As Commissioner, he would be expected to lead efforts to improve public health infrastructure and access to healthcare services.
The recent cabinet nominations also reflect Okpebholo’s emphasis on continuity and experience, with Osagie’s legal expertise bringing decades of knowledge to the Attorney-General role. Barrister Ikhilor, known for his legislative experience, will oversee administrative functions as the Secretary to the State Government. These choices indicate Okpebholo’s approach to governance, blending new and established political figures to drive his administration’s agenda forward.
