Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has announced the establishment of a panel to investigate the administration of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki. This decision was revealed during his inaugural address in Benin City, focusing on two key issues: the refusal to inaugurate 14 elected members of the State House of Assembly in 2019 and the delay in swearing in three judges recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Okpebholo described the non-inauguration of the lawmakers as a significant blow to democracy and emphasized the need to prevent such incidents in the future. He also tasked the state’s Chief Judge to address the judicial delays under Obaseki’s tenure. The inquiry aims to strengthen governance and ensure transparency in past administrative decisions.
