Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has shed light on Manchester City’s decision to sell promising talent Cole Palmer. Speaking on the transfer, Maresca, formerly part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff, emphasized that Palmer’s quality was never in doubt.
“Why City sold Cole Palmer? Everyone at City, they knew how good Cole is,” Maresca said. “The only problem is that having so many players there… it’s difficult to give all of them minutes.”
He further clarified that Palmer’s exit wasn’t a reflection of his abilities. “No one at City thought that Cole was not good enough, no doubt,” he added.
Palmer, who joined Chelsea in the summer, has already made an impact at his new club, showcasing the potential that made him one of City’s brightest academy graduates. Maresca’s comments underline the challenges top clubs face in balancing squad depth and player development.
