
Ahmadu Kurfi, a former Secretary of the Federal Electoral Commission (FEDECO), passed away at the age of 93. Kurfi, who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s electoral history, notably oversaw the contentious 1979 elections as FEDECO secretary. These elections ultimately led to the declaration of Shehu Shagari as President under circumstances that sparked legal and political debates.
Kurfi was also a distinguished public servant, serving as a deputy permanent secretary in Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence and contributing significantly to electoral reforms. His expertise and dedication to nation-building earned him national recognition throughout his career.
