The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a three-month ultimatum to property owners with uncompleted buildings and undeveloped plots in Abuja, demanding immediate development or risk the revocation of their land titles. This directive impacts 435 abandoned structures and 600 undeveloped plots across the Federal Capital City (FCC), as the administration seeks to address growing security and environmental concerns.
The FCTA highlighted that many of these abandoned buildings have become hideouts for criminals, exacerbating security risks in the city. FCT Director of Land Administration, Adamu Jibrin Hussaini, noted that the administration will no longer tolerate negligence from landowners, particularly in areas where the government has invested significantly in infrastructure. These uncompleted projects not only pose security challenges but also detract from the city’s overall development and image.
Hussaini added that despite multiple warnings issued in the past, many property owners have remained unresponsive, prompting the FCTA to take more stringent measures. In addition to revoking titles, the administration is encouraging landowners to collect their Certificates of Occupancy, as thousands remain unclaimed. The ultimatum is part of broader efforts to ensure that all land within the city is used productively and contributes to economic and social development.
